D-Day Memorial Unveiled

The much awaited D-Day Memorial was unveiled on 5th June 2025  the last day of D-Day 80th Anniversary Year at Stokes Bay on the south coast of Hampshire. 

The Memorial Stone was unveiled by Mr Albert Westgate and Commodore Richard Powell OBE of Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire office, 

Mr Westgate, a 100 year old D-Day Veteran of the Royal Air Force was a radio operator, who landed on Omaha Beach with the American Allied Forces on D+5. 

The unveiling was attended by many dignitaries including Lt General (Rtd) Sir David Bill, Mayor of Gosport, Cllr Kirsten Bradley, Dame Caroline Dineage MP and Col C Quinlan CAN Army (Canadian Consulate).

Also in attendance was Mrs Christine Chapman & Mr Russell Belben widow & son of Fellowship founding members Malcolm Chapman & Tony Belben. 

The Memorial is a silent sentinel to All the troops who embarked from Stokes Bay on 6th June 1944. 

The Memorial has a granite stone at its centre and encircled by 5 benches representing the 5 Normandy beaches. The granite is a 100+ year old keystone from nearby Fort Gilkicker
